How do removals to Slovenia from the UK work?

Removals to Slovenia from the UK run door to door by road and typically take 6 to 12 days from collection to delivery. We pack and collect at your UK address, prepare the customs paperwork, and deliver to your Slovenian address. You can book a dedicated vehicle or share one as a part load.

The route runs down through Germany and Austria and over the Alps, which is the part worth knowing: the final approach to many Slovenian addresses is mountain road rather than motorway.

What is included in a removal to Slovenia?

Packing in export-grade materials, a labelled inventory of everything in the shipment, collection from your UK address, the road freight itself as a dedicated vehicle or a part load, the customs paperwork at both ends, and delivery to your Slovenian address. Unpacking and furniture placement are available on request.

Will a lorry reach my Slovenian property?

Often not directly, and it is worth raising early. Slovenia is mountainous and much of it is reached by narrow valley roads, while Ljubljana and the older towns restrict vehicle size and delivery hours. Where access is limited the final leg transfers to a smaller shuttle vehicle.

Tell us the address at survey rather than on delivery day. A hillside property with a steep approach is a planning question, not a problem, provided we know about it before the lorry sets off.

Should I book a dedicated vehicle or a part load to Slovenia?

Book a dedicated vehicle if you are moving a whole house or need a firm delivery date. Choose a part load if you are moving less than that: your goods share the space, you pay only for what you use, and you wait a little longer while the vehicle fills.

How long do removals to Slovenia take?

Road freight to Slovenia typically takes 6 to 12 days from collection to delivery, with a dedicated vehicle at the shorter end and a shared load at the longer end, because a shared load waits for other consignments before it departs.

Winter is the one variable worth planning around, because alpine passes and valley roads can slow a final leg that is otherwise straightforward.

Do I pay duty on my belongings going into Slovenia?

Usually no, under the EU transfer of residence relief. You need to have lived outside the EU for at least twelve continuous months, to have owned and used the goods for at least six months before you left, and to import them within twelve months of establishing residence in Slovenia.

The relief does not cover alcoholic drinks, tobacco, commercial vehicles or equipment for a trade. For twelve months after release the goods cannot be lent, hired out, used as security or sold without telling customs first.

What documents do I need for removals to Slovenia?

A valid passport copy for everyone moving, proof of your address in Slovenia, proof of your previous UK address, a detailed inventory listing everything in the shipment with values, and a signed declaration that the goods are personal effects and not for resale.

International moving advice: planning a relocation timeline

Which parts of Slovenia do you deliver to?

We deliver nationwide. Most moves go to Ljubljana, Maribor and Celje, and we also deliver to Kranj, Koper, Velenje, Novo Mesto, Ptuj, Nova Gorica, Murska Sobota, Jesenice and Domzale. If your destination is not on the list, ask and we will confirm the route on your quote.

What can I ship to Slovenia?

Household goods, furniture, boxes and personal effects, along with fragile and high-value items such as glassware, artwork and antiques, which are reinforced-packed or crated. Vehicles travel alongside a household shipment or on their own.

Aerosols, paints, solvents, gas bottles and fuel cannot be carried on any removal vehicle, and plants and anything with soil on it are restricted.

What sets the price of removals to Slovenia?

Four things: the volume of your belongings, whether you book a dedicated vehicle or share one, how much packing you want us to do, and access at both ends. On Slovenian deliveries access is the one that moves the figure most often.

Why choose Removals.co.uk for removals to Slovenia?

We have completed over 10,000 moves, we are rated 4.6 out of 5 from 110 reviews on Trustpilot, and we are members of Approved Movers in the UK, working only with overseas agents who are members of BAR or FIDI. Every move gets one named coordinator.

Quotes are free and itemised, and our own yard and storage at Fazeley covers the gap when your dates at either end do not line up.

Can my shipment arrive in Slovenia by sea?

It can, through Koper on the Adriatic, which is Slovenia’s only commercial seaport. It is unusually well placed for a small country: Koper sits close to Ljubljana by road, so a container landed there has a short inland leg rather than a long one.

That makes sea a more realistic option for Slovenia than for most of our European destinations. For a large consignment where the date is flexible, a container to Koper can compete with the drive down through Germany and Austria. For a normal household move road is still simpler and ends at your door.

Koper is also the reason a Slovenian move can sometimes be combined with a wider Adriatic routing. If your volume is large, ask for both figures at quote stage rather than assuming the lorry is the only answer.

Who clears my shipment at the Slovenian end?

The Financial Administration of the Republic of Slovenia handles customs, and our agent lodges the import declaration against your inventory. Whether your goods arrive by road over the Alps or by sea into Koper, the paperwork is the same and it is prepared for you.

Since Brexit a British national moving to Slovenia is a third-country national rather than an EU citizen. That matters because Slovenia’s residence registration process runs through its administrative units and the published deadlines are written for EU citizens, so they are not the rules that apply to you. The current GOV.UK guidance for Slovenia is the place to check before you fix dates.

For the move itself we need the itemised inventory, passport copies and the declaration that the goods are used personal effects. Your coordinator confirms the exact Slovenian document list at quote stage.

Removals to Slovenia: frequently asked questions

Do you deliver to Lake Bled and the alpine towns?

Yes. Those addresses are usually reached on narrow valley roads, so the final leg transfers to a smaller shuttle vehicle. Tell us the address at survey and the route is planned around it rather than discovered by a driver on the day.

It can. The alpine passes and the valley roads that serve much of Slovenia are the slowest part of the journey in bad weather, and that is the one variable worth building a little slack into if you are moving between November and March.

Yes. A wardrobe, a sofa or a dozen boxes travel as a part load, so you pay for the space they occupy rather than for a whole vehicle. On a mountain delivery a smaller consignment is often easier to get to the door as well.

Yes. Our packers wrap and box everything in export-grade materials and can unpack at the Slovenian end. Fragile items get reinforced packing, which is worth having on a route that finishes on winding roads.

Yes, either with your household goods or on its own. Duty relief depends on having owned and used the vehicle before the move, and you will need to register it in Slovenia once it arrives. Our vehicle shipping page explains how.

Yes, at our own yard at Riverside Industrial Estate in Fazeley, Tamworth. If a Slovenian property is not ready, or winter weather pushes an alpine delivery back, your goods can wait with us in the UK rather than in transit.

Our crews are fully insured, and transit insurance covering loss or damage on the journey is available as an option. Your quote sets out what is covered and what it costs before anything is collected.
