How do removals to Slovakia from the UK work?
Removals to Slovakia from the UK run door to door by road and typically take 6 to 12 days from collection to delivery. We pack and collect at your UK address, prepare the customs paperwork, and deliver to your Slovak address. You can book a dedicated vehicle or share one as a part load.
Slovakia sits on the same central European corridor as Austria and Hungary, and Bratislava is less than an hour from Vienna, so it is a route our vehicles already run rather than a special journey.
What is included in a removal to Slovakia?
Packing in export-grade materials, a labelled inventory of everything in the shipment, collection from your UK address, the road freight itself as a dedicated vehicle or a part load, the customs paperwork at both ends, and delivery to your Slovak address. Unpacking and furniture placement are available on request.
Should I book a dedicated vehicle or a part load to Slovakia?
Book a dedicated vehicle if you are moving a whole house or need a firm delivery date, because the lorry carries only your belongings. Choose a part load if you are moving less: your goods share the space, you pay only for what you use, and you wait while the vehicle fills.
Because Slovakia sits on a corridor we already serve, shared departures come round reasonably often, so the wait on a part load is usually shorter than on an outlying route.
How long do removals to Slovakia take?
Road freight to Slovakia typically takes 6 to 12 days from collection to delivery, with a dedicated vehicle at the shorter end and a shared load at the longer end, because a shared load waits for other consignments before it departs.
Where a full-size lorry cannot reach the door, or a city centre restricts vehicle size and delivery hours, the final leg transfers to a smaller shuttle vehicle. Tell us about access at survey rather than on delivery day.
Do I pay duty on my belongings going into Slovakia?
Usually no, under the EU transfer of residence relief. You need to have lived outside the EU for at least twelve continuous months, to have owned and used the goods for at least six months before you left, and to import them within twelve months of establishing residence in Slovakia.
The relief does not cover alcoholic drinks, tobacco, commercial vehicles or equipment for a trade. For twelve months after release the goods cannot be lent, hired out, used as security or sold without telling customs first.
What documents do I need for removals to Slovakia?
A valid passport copy for everyone moving, proof of your address in Slovakia, proof of your previous UK address, a detailed inventory listing everything in the shipment with values, and a signed declaration that the goods are personal effects and not for resale.
We prepare the shipping paperwork and tell you which of your own documents to have ready and when.
Which parts of Slovakia do you deliver to?
We deliver nationwide. Most moves go to Bratislava, Kosice and Presov, and we also deliver to Zilina, Nitra, Banska Bystrica, Trnava, Trencin, Martin, Poprad, Prievidza and Michalovce. If your destination is not on the list, ask and we will confirm the route on your quote.
What can I ship to Slovakia?
Household goods, furniture, boxes and personal effects, along with fragile and high-value items such as glassware, artwork and antiques, which are reinforced-packed or crated. Vehicles travel alongside a household shipment or on their own.
Aerosols, paints, solvents, gas bottles and fuel cannot be carried on any removal vehicle, and plants and anything with soil on it are restricted.
What sets the price of removals to Slovakia?
Four things: the volume of your belongings, whether you book a dedicated vehicle or share one, how much packing you want us to do, and access at both ends, since a narrow street or an upper floor without a lift adds time to the job.
What are the steps of a removal to Slovakia?
Five stages: a free quote based on your volume and dates, a survey online or in person to check access and anything fragile, packing and a labelled inventory at your UK address, the road leg with customs cleared at both ends, then delivery with unpacking if you want it.
Why choose Removals.co.uk for removals to Slovakia?
We have completed over 10,000 moves, we are rated 4.6 out of 5 from 110 reviews on Trustpilot, and we are members of Approved Movers in the UK, working only with overseas agents who are members of BAR or FIDI. Every move gets one named coordinator.
Quotes are free, itemised and carry no obligation, and our own yard and storage at Fazeley covers the gap when your dates at either end do not line up.
Slovakia is landlocked, so what does that mean for my move?
It means road freight is not just the best option, it is effectively the only sensible one. Slovakia has no seaport, so a container would have to be landed in a neighbouring country and trucked in, which adds a leg, a handover and a cost for no gain in speed.
That simplifies the decision considerably. Rather than weighing sea against road, the only real choice on a Slovak move is whether you book a dedicated vehicle or share one, and how much packing you want us to do. Air freight stays available for a few urgent items and is priced on weight.
It also means the border crossing is the only customs event in the journey. There is no port, no quay rent and no demurrage to worry about, which is one of the quieter advantages of a central European destination.
Who clears my shipment at the Slovak end?
The Financial Administration of the Slovak Republic handles customs, and our agent in Slovakia lodges the import declaration against your inventory. You do not deal with the authority directly and you do not need to be present at the crossing.
The post-Brexit position is the part people get wrong. A British national moving to Slovakia is now a third-country national, so the arrival-reporting and registration deadlines you will find quoted online, which are written for EU citizens, are not the rules that apply to you. Check the current GOV.UK guidance for Slovakia before you commit to dates.
For the shipment itself nothing changes: the itemised inventory, passport copies and a declaration that the goods are used personal effects. Your coordinator confirms the exact Slovak document list at quote stage once we know which residence route you are on.

Removals to Slovakia: frequently asked questions
Do you deliver into Bratislava's old town?
Yes. Parts of the centre are pedestrianised and restrict vehicle access and delivery hours, so the final leg usually transfers to a smaller shuttle vehicle. Tell us the address at survey rather than on the day and the delivery is planned around the restrictions.
How many customs crossings does my shipment make?
One. Your goods leave the UK on an export declaration and are cleared once on entry, and because Slovakia is landlocked and reached entirely by road there is no port handling in between. That is fewer points at which a shipment can sit waiting than on a sea route.
Can you move just a few pieces of furniture to Slovakia?
Yes. A wardrobe, a sofa or a dozen boxes travel as a part load on the same service as a full house, so you pay for the space they occupy rather than for a vehicle. Each piece is wrapped and export-packed before it leaves.
Can you pack for me?
Yes. Our packers wrap and box everything in export-grade materials and can unpack at the Slovak end, and we can drop materials off beforehand if you would rather pack yourself. It all goes on the inventory either way.
Can I ship a car to Slovakia?
Yes, either with your household goods or on its own. Duty relief depends on having owned and used the vehicle before the move, and you will need to register it in Slovakia after arrival. Our vehicle shipping page sets out the detail.
Do you offer storage at either end?
We offer storage at our own yard at Riverside Industrial Estate in Fazeley, Tamworth, which covers the gap before a vehicle departs or after it returns. Storage in Slovakia itself is something to confirm with your coordinator rather than assume.
Is my shipment insured?
Our crews are fully insured, and transit insurance covering loss or damage on the journey is available as an option. Your quote sets out the cover and the cost so you can decide before collection day.
