How do removals to Lithuania from the UK work?

Removals to Lithuania from the UK run door to door by road and typically take 6 to 12 days from collection to delivery. We pack and collect at your UK address, prepare the customs paperwork, and deliver to your Lithuanian address. You can book a dedicated vehicle or share one as a part load.

It is one of the longer road routes we run in Europe, crossing the Channel and then Germany and Poland before reaching the Baltic states, so Lithuania tends to sit at the longer end of that window rather than the shorter one.

What is included in a removal to Lithuania?

Packing in export-grade materials, a labelled inventory of everything in the shipment, collection from your UK address, the road freight itself as a dedicated vehicle or a part load, the customs paperwork at both ends, and delivery to your Lithuanian address. Unpacking and furniture placement are available on request.

Should I book a dedicated vehicle or a part load to Lithuania?

On a route this long the difference matters more than usual. A dedicated vehicle carries only your belongings and drives straight through, so you get firm dates. A part load shares the space and costs less, but it waits to be filled before it leaves, which on a Baltic run can add a week on its own.

Below roughly three bedrooms a part load is still usually the sensible choice. Above it, a dedicated vehicle often costs little more and removes the waiting.

How long do removals to Lithuania take?

Road freight to Lithuania typically takes 6 to 12 days from collection to delivery, with a dedicated vehicle at the shorter end and a shared load at the longer end, because a shared load waits for other consignments before it departs.

Where a full-size lorry cannot reach the door, or a city centre restricts vehicle size and delivery hours, the final leg transfers to a smaller shuttle vehicle. Vilnius old town in particular is tight, so tell us the address at survey.

Do I pay duty on my belongings going into Lithuania?

Usually no, under the EU transfer of residence relief. You need to have lived outside the EU for at least twelve continuous months, to have owned and used the goods for at least six months before you left, and to import them within twelve months of establishing residence in Lithuania.

The relief does not cover alcoholic drinks, tobacco, commercial vehicles or equipment for a trade. For twelve months after release the goods cannot be lent, hired out, used as security or sold without telling customs first.

What documents do I need for removals to Lithuania?

A valid passport copy for everyone moving, proof of your address in Lithuania, proof of your previous UK address, a detailed inventory listing everything in the shipment with values, and a signed declaration that the goods are personal effects and not for resale.

We prepare the shipping paperwork and tell you which of your own documents to have ready. The inventory is the part that matters: a vague box count is the usual reason a shipment waits at a border.

Which parts of Lithuania do you deliver to?

We deliver nationwide. Most moves go to Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda, and we also deliver to Siauliai, Panevezys, Alytus, Marijampole, Mazeikiai, Jonava, Utena, Kedainiai and Telsiai. If your destination is not on the list, ask and we will confirm the route on your quote.

What can I ship to Lithuania?

Household goods, furniture, boxes and personal effects, along with fragile and high-value items such as glassware, artwork and antiques, which are reinforced-packed or crated. Vehicles travel alongside a household shipment or on their own.

Aerosols, paints, solvents, gas bottles and fuel cannot be carried on any removal vehicle, and plants and anything with soil on it are restricted. Declare anything unusual at survey.

What sets the price of removals to Lithuania?

Four things: the volume of your belongings, whether you book a dedicated vehicle or share one, how much packing you want us to do, and access at both ends. Distance is already in the rate, so a Baltic route is not quoted by the mile.

What are the steps of a removal to Lithuania?

Five stages: a free quote based on your volume and dates, a survey online or in person to check access and anything fragile, packing and a labelled inventory at your UK address, the road leg with customs cleared at both ends, then delivery with unpacking if you want it.

Why choose Removals.co.uk for removals to Lithuania?

We have completed over 10,000 moves, we are rated 4.6 out of 5 from 110 reviews on Trustpilot, and we are members of Approved Movers in the UK, working only with overseas agents who are members of BAR or FIDI. Every move gets one named coordinator.

We also run our own yard and storage at Riverside Industrial Estate in Fazeley, Tamworth, which matters on a long route where your dates at either end may not line up.

Can my shipment arrive in Lithuania by sea?

It can, through Klaipeda, which is Lithuania’s only seaport and one of the few Baltic ports that stays ice-free all year. For a large consignment that is a real alternative to the long drive, though for most household moves the road route still wins because it ends at your door.

The trade-off is specific to this route. The road journey to Lithuania crosses the Channel and then Germany and Poland, which is why it sits at the longer end of our European window. A container to Klaipeda removes that drive but adds a sailing and an inland leg, so it rarely helps a three-bedroom move and often helps a five-bedroom one.

If you are heading for Klaipeda itself or the coast, say so at survey, because a sea routing can land your goods close to the delivery address rather than hundreds of miles from it.

Who clears my shipment at the Lithuanian end?

Lithuanian Customs, which sits as the Customs Department under the Ministry of Finance, handles the import, and our agent in Lithuania lodges the declaration. You are not expected to deal with the authority yourself, and you do not need to be at the border.

Since Brexit a British national moving to Lithuania is a third-country national rather than an EU citizen, which matters because most online guidance about registering residence in Lithuania is written for EU citizens and does not apply to you. The relief on your household goods is claimed as a transfer of residence against proof of the move, so the residence document you hold is the thing that decides the paperwork.

Get that document sorted before the shipment sails or departs. It is the single most common reason a Baltic shipment waits, and on a route this long a wait at the far end is expensive in storage rather than just inconvenient.

This was a first experience requiring an international moving company and I had absolutely no idea what the process was. From the first pledge of dedication to the final concluding email, I was met with extreme patience and kind, encouraging words.

Removals to Lithuania: frequently asked questions

Why does a shared load to Lithuania take longer than one to France?

Because the vehicle waits to be filled, and there are fewer consignments heading for the Baltics in any given week than for northern France. The drive itself is longer too, crossing Germany and Poland. On this route the wait for a shared vehicle is usually the bigger part of the delay, not the mileage.

Yes, but it is one of the tighter historic centres in Europe and restricts vehicle size and delivery hours, so the last leg normally transfers to a smaller shuttle vehicle. Give us the street and the floor at survey and the route is planned around it.

Yes. On a route this long that is often the sensible way to do it: a dozen boxes travel as a part load and you pay only for the space they take. Everything is wrapped and export-packed and listed on the inventory before it leaves.

Yes. Our packers wrap and box everything in export-grade materials and can unpack at the Lithuanian end. On a long road route the packing matters more than on a short one, because your belongings spend more days in the vehicle.

Yes, either with your household goods or on its own. Duty relief depends on having owned and used the vehicle before the move, and you will need to register it in Lithuania once it arrives. Our vehicle shipping page explains the process.

Yes, at our own yard at Riverside Industrial Estate in Fazeley, Tamworth. On a Baltic move that is worth knowing, because storing with us in the UK is simpler and usually cheaper than paying for storage at the far end once the vehicle has already driven there.

Our crews are fully insured, and transit insurance covering loss or damage on the journey is available as an option. Given the distance involved it is worth asking for the figure when you get your quote rather than afterwards.
