How do removals to Monaco from the UK work?
Removals to Monaco from the UK go by road, in either a dedicated van for your household alone or a part load sharing a lorry with other moves. We survey your home, pack and wrap everything, drive down through France, and handle the customs entry, which for Monaco is made to French customs rather than a Monegasque one.
Monaco is a short road route with an unusually awkward final hundred metres, and that is the part worth planning rather than the drive. The Principality is dense, steep and tightly parked, and a full-size lorry cannot simply pull up outside most addresses.
One coordinator runs the move from survey to delivery, and the access survey is what decides the vehicle plan.
How long do removals to Monaco take?
Road freight to Monaco typically takes 6 to 12 days from collection to delivery. A dedicated vehicle sits at the shorter end because it drives straight there, while a shared load sits at the longer end, because it waits for other consignments before it departs.
That range is the honest one rather than a best case. If you need a fixed date, a dedicated van is the option that gives you one, because nothing else is travelling on it.
The paperwork is rarely what moves a Monaco date. The access arrangements at the delivery end are, which is why we settle them before you book rather than on the morning.
Do I pay duty on my belongings going into Monaco?
Monaco has been inside the EU customs territory since 1968 through its customs union with France, and it has no customs office of its own. Your shipment is declared to French customs, and the EU transfer of residence relief is what removes duty on used household goods for someone genuinely moving there.
That relief has conditions worth knowing before you pack. You need to have had your normal residence outside the EU customs territory for at least twelve continuous months; the goods must be owned and used for at least six months before you left; and they must be imported within twelve months of establishing your new residence. For twelve months afterwards they cannot be lent, hired out, pledged or sold without telling customs first.
The relief does not cover alcohol, tobacco, commercial vehicles, or equipment for a trade or profession beyond portable instruments. Those are declared and dealt with separately.
Monaco’s customs position is confirmed by the Monegasque government’s own published statement about the customs union. The detail of how the residence relief is applied at the French office handling your entry is something your coordinator confirms with our agent before you travel.
What documents do I need for removals to Monaco?
You will need your passport, evidence of your new Monegasque address and residence application, proof that you lived outside the EU for the previous twelve months, and a detailed inventory with a value against each item. The declaration itself is made in France rather than in Monaco.
Proof of the twelve months abroad is the item people underestimate. A tenancy agreement, council tax records or utility bills covering the full period are the usual evidence, and gathering them takes longer than people expect once they have already moved out.
The inventory is built at the survey and itemised properly, because a vague list is what turns a straightforward clearance into a delay.
Which route do you take to Monaco?
Your load crosses the Channel and runs south through France to the Cote d’Azur. Because Monaco sits inside the French customs territory, there is one customs event on the whole journey rather than a border formality on arrival at the Principality itself.
That is genuinely simpler than most non-EU European destinations, where clearance happens at the destination border and can hold a vehicle for a day. On this route the complexity sits at the delivery address instead.
Tell your coordinator the building, the floor, whether there is lift access and what the parking restrictions are, and the vehicle plan is built around that.
Can I send a part load to Monaco?
Yes, and it suits a lot of Monaco moves, because many people arrive into a furnished or part-furnished apartment and send a modest shipment rather than a full household. You pay for the space your belongings occupy rather than hiring a whole vehicle.
The care is identical either way. The difference is the schedule: a shared lorry waits for other consignments before it leaves, so a dedicated van is the one that gives you a fixed date.
The survey settles which fits and we quote both. There is more on how shared loads work on our part load removals page.
Which parts of Monaco do you deliver to?
We deliver throughout the Principality, including Monte Carlo, La Condamine, Fontvieille, Monaco-Ville, Larvotto and Moneghetti. Monaco covers barely two square kilometres, so the question is never distance, it is whether a lorry can physically reach your door.
Where it cannot, and in Monaco that is often, the final leg transfers to a smaller shuttle vehicle. Narrow streets, steep gradients, underground car parks with height limits and restricted delivery hours are all normal here rather than exceptional.
Tell us the address and the access at the survey and the shuttle is planned into the quote rather than appearing as an extra on the day.
What sets the price of removals to Monaco?
How much you are sending, whether you book a dedicated van or a part load, how much packing you want us to do, and above all the access at the Monaco end. A shuttle transfer, a long carry or a restricted delivery window takes more crew and more time than the drive itself.
Road freight is priced on the space your belongings occupy rather than their weight, so the survey is what makes a quote real rather than a guess over the phone.
We quote in writing with the inclusions listed, and anything excluded says so rather than appearing later.
Moving elsewhere on this route? We run removals to France, Italy and Spain, and every European destination is listed on our European removals page. Sending less than a full household? Part load removals explains shared loads.

Removals to Monaco: frequently asked questions
Does Monaco have its own customs?
No. Monaco has been in a customs union with France since 1968 and sits inside the EU customs territory, with no customs office of its own. Your entry is declared to French customs, which is why the paperwork looks like a French move rather than a separate country.
Can a removal lorry reach my building?
Often not directly, and that is normal in Monaco rather than a problem. Narrow streets, gradients, height-limited car parks and restricted hours mean the final leg frequently transfers to a smaller shuttle vehicle, which we plan into the quote.
How long do I have to bring my things in?
Under the EU residence relief the goods should be imported within twelve months of establishing your new residence, and they must have been owned and used for at least six months before you left. Tell your coordinator your dates and it is checked before you book.
Can I ship a car to Monaco?
Vehicle shipping is a service we offer, but a vehicle is treated separately from household effects and is not covered by the same relief. Ask your coordinator, and see our vehicle shipping page.
Can you store my things before delivery?
Yes, at our own yard in Staffordshire. On a Monaco move that is useful when the apartment completion date moves, which it frequently does, because holding goods in the UK is simpler than arranging storage in the Principality.
Do you pack for me?
Yes. Packing and unpacking are part of what we do, and on a route with a shuttle transfer at the far end professionally packed goods handle the extra handling far better.
Is my shipment insured?
Cover is arranged against the value you declare, and the level of cover depends on that declaration and the terms in our agreement. Our guide to removals insurance explains it in full.
