How do removals to Morocco from the UK work?
Removals to Morocco from the UK can go by road through France and Spain with a short ferry crossing from Algeciras, or by sea in a container. We survey, pack and wrap everything, and prepare the exemption paperwork, which has to reach the Moroccan agent well before your goods arrive.
Morocco is unusually close for a non-European destination, which makes the road and ferry option genuinely practical rather than theoretical. Which route suits you depends on volume and on where in the country you are going.
One coordinator runs the move throughout, and the inventory built at the survey becomes the document the exemption is applied for with.
How long do removals to Morocco take?
Your transit time is confirmed in writing on your quote, because it depends on whether you travel by road and ferry or by container, and on whether you book a dedicated vehicle or a part load. The two routes have quite different timetables.
What matters as much as the crossing is the paperwork deadline. Guidance indicates your documents should reach the destination agent well in advance of the shipment so the exemption can be applied for, rather than arriving with the goods.
Do I pay duty on my belongings going into Morocco?
Used household goods and personal effects can be imported free of duty provided they have been in your possession and use for a minimum period, commonly stated as six months, and provided the exemption documentation has been obtained before the goods arrive.
The exemption is not automatic. It rests on a Certificate of Change of Residence together with a dated and signed inventory and a sworn statement that the goods are used. For a work-related move, a contract or attestation from a Moroccan employer is commonly required as well.
The documents need to reach the destination agent at least a couple of weeks before the shipment arrives, because the exemption is applied for in advance rather than at the quay. If you are shipping in two consignments, the second is normally expected within six months of the first.
Where the exemption does not apply, published guidance indicates charges on new articles can be substantial, approaching half the assessed value in some categories. These conditions come from mover country guides rather than official Moroccan publications, so your coordinator confirms them with our agent before anything is loaded.
What documents do I need for removals to Morocco?
You will need your passport, your residence visa or work permit, a Certificate of Change of Residence, a dated and signed inventory in French or Arabic, a packing list, and a sworn statement that the goods are used. Work moves commonly also need an employer attestation and salary records.
The French or Arabic inventory is not something to improvise at the port. We prepare it from the survey so it is accurate and consistent with the English original, in the same way we handle the Spanish translation for Costa Rica.
Because everything has to be with the agent in advance, the document gathering is scheduled alongside the packing rather than left until the vehicle has gone.
Which route do you take to Morocco?
Either by road through France and Spain with a ferry from Algeciras to Tangier, or by container by sea to Tangier Med or Casablanca. The road option suits smaller loads and northern destinations; a container suits a full household or a delivery further south.
Tangier Med is one of the largest ports in Africa and the Mediterranean, so container services are frequent and the crossing itself is short. Casablanca serves the centre and the Atlantic coast.
Tell your coordinator the delivery city and the volume and we will say plainly which route works out better for your move rather than defaulting to one.
Can I send a part load to Morocco?
Yes, and the short crossing makes it particularly economical here. A part load means you pay for the space your belongings occupy on a shared vehicle or inside a shared container rather than hiring either outright.
The care is identical. The difference is the schedule, because a shared load waits for other consignments before it departs.
The survey settles which option fits and we quote both so you can compare. There is more on our part load removals page.
Which parts of Morocco do you deliver to?
We deliver across Morocco, including Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, Tangier, Fes, Agadir, Meknes, Essaouira and Chefchaouen, as well as towns reached by road from those cities. The motorway network between the main centres is good, though Agadir and the far south add a noticeably longer drive from the northern ports than the map suggests.
The medinas are the access question worth raising early. The old quarters of Marrakech, Fes and Chefchaouen have streets no vehicle can enter, and deliveries there are made by handcart or on foot for the final stretch.
Where that is the case it is planned into the quote with the extra crew and time it needs, rather than appearing as a surprise when the lorry stops at the gate.
What sets the price of removals to Morocco?
How much you are sending, whether you go by road and ferry or by container, whether you book exclusive use or a part load, and the access at the Moroccan end. A medina delivery needing a handcart is a different proposition from a modern apartment in Casablanca.
Freight is priced on the space your belongings occupy rather than their weight, so the survey is what makes a quote real rather than a guess over the phone.
We quote in writing with the inclusions listed, and anything excluded says so.
Elsewhere in Africa we run removals to Kenya and South Africa, and on the same road route to Spain. Every route is listed on our Africa destinations page. Sending less than a full household? See part load removals.

Removals to Morocco: frequently asked questions
What is the Certificate of Change of Residence?
It is the document establishing that you are genuinely moving your home to Morocco, and the duty exemption rests on it. It has to be obtained and sent to the destination agent in advance rather than produced when the goods arrive.
How far in advance do my documents need to be there?
Guidance indicates at least a couple of weeks before the shipment arrives, because the exemption is applied for ahead of time. Documents arriving with the goods is the usual cause of delay and storage charges.
Does my inventory need translating?
Yes. It needs to be dated, signed and in French or Arabic. We prepare it from the survey so it is accurate and matches the English original rather than being improvised at the port.
Is the road and ferry route really practical?
Yes, and it is one of the things that makes Morocco unusual. The crossing from Algeciras to Tangier is short, so for smaller loads and northern destinations the road route is often quicker than waiting for a container sailing.
Can you deliver into the medina?
Yes, but not by lorry. The old quarters of Marrakech, Fes and Chefchaouen have streets no vehicle can enter, so the last stretch is done by handcart or on foot with extra crew. It is planned into the quote.
Should I ship new furniture?
Think carefully. The exemption is for used goods, and guidance indicates new articles can attract substantial charges. Anything bought for the move should be flagged at the survey with its receipts.
Is my shipment insured?
Cover is arranged against the value you declare, and the level of cover depends on that declaration and the terms in our agreement. Our guide to removals insurance explains it in full.
