European Removals Costs
Weekly Road Service
Shared & Dedicated Loads
Customs Handled
European moves are priced differently from long-haul ones, because the method is different. Almost everything within Europe goes by road, which changes what drives the cost and what you can control.
Indicative ranges by load size for the main European routes belong here.
Why European moves are priced on space and route
Road groupage works by filling a truck with several customers going the same direction. You pay for the space your belongings occupy, and the route determines how often that truck runs. Spain, France and the Netherlands are high-frequency routes. Estonia, Bulgaria or northern Norway are not, and a thinner schedule means either a longer wait for a part load or a higher price for a dedicated one.
Transit is typically 3 to 10 days depending on the route and whether you are sharing.
Shared load or dedicated truck
Shared. You choose a collection window, pay for your volume only, and the load departs when the vehicle is full. Cheapest option, least control over dates. Right for most moves under about three bedrooms.
Dedicated. The vehicle is yours. You set collection and delivery dates, and transit is faster because there are no other drops. Right for whole-house moves, tight timelines, or awkward destinations.
What Brexit added
Household goods moving between the UK and the EU now need customs formalities in both directions. For most private moves this is administrative rather than costly, because personal effects usually qualify for relief, but it has to be applied for. The cost appears when it goes wrong: a truck held at the border, or a shipment reclassified because the inventory was too vague. Both are avoided by preparing the documentation properly, which is part of the service rather than an extra.
Country-specific costs worth knowing
- Islands. Anything crossing to Madeira, the Balearics or the Canaries adds a ferry or short-sea leg.
- Mountain and rural access. Alpine and rural destinations frequently need a shuttle vehicle for the final leg.
- City centres. Restricted access zones in Italian and Spanish historic centres limit vehicle size and delivery windows.
- Non-EU European destinations. Switzerland and Norway sit outside the EU customs union, so clearance differs from an EU move.
